Part A:
Growing up in an Asian family, we connected through food a lot. They persevered in this strange world, going out of their way to provide a meal for us. When parents made mistakes, their apologies are food. When they care about us, they brought us food. When we visit extended family, food is the most important part of the whole visit. They kept feeding us and then also body-shaming us, calling us fat. I used to be very insecure about this but I am growing out of this. Food is almost like a love language, a conversation started and sometimes the only connection we have between generations. I found it so funny when this was portrayed by a Japanese American comedian, Atsuko Okatsuka. Here is the link to it.
Part B:
Food, mistakes, apologies, love language, conversation starter, connection, generations, care, Asian, persevere.
