Step 2.
For this project I have decided to pick a sculpture of cupid, the god of love, as a shepherd. He is standing with one arm outstretched and the other behind his back. I think cupid dressed as a shepherd is showing that love can be disguised as something else, and it may go completely unnoticed in day to day life. But that love is out there even if it is hard to see.The sculpture gives off a very secretive and stealthy feeling to cupid. He is usually depicted flying, angel wings outstretched with his bow and arrow. But this piece puts cupid in a different light. Turning him into a more literal definition of love. Where it is never obvious and out there, but some people can see through its facade and see it for what it really is. I want to explore the idea of the pain of loving. How torment and pain can be thought to come from one source, where in fact it is coming from love. I want to use cupid’s stealthy appearance to turn his intent evil. I want to work with modifying the existing form and adding objects to it as well. I want to add a weapon into the mix that is not usually seen with cupid. Possibly a gun or sword that he is secretly wielding, most likely behind his back. I also want to change his expression to make him seem more sinister. As if he has a trick up his sleeve he is about to put into action. I could also use the bend command to move his arms in a different direction.
