The sculpture depicts two greyhounds, one grooming the other by licking/gnawing on its ear. I think it symbolizes tenderness, it’s a display of care by the one greyhound that may be unappreciated by the other. I associate greyhounds with the brutal culture of dog racing, where I can’t imagine there is much love and tenderness going around. Greyhounds are known for their speed, used in racing and hunting. The dogs in the sculpture are also noticeably skinny, their muscles and ribs sticking out. I want to distort the sculpture to lock the dogs in a state of love and tenderness. A lot of times when I look at a sculpture of a living being, I think about the subject being stuck in that pose for eternity. In the original sculpture, the greyhound in front is turned away from the one grooming it, they aren’t making eye contact. I want to highlight eye contact, and have them stare at each other forever. I will replace the greyhounds’ heads with large eyeballs and turn them toward each other, gazing at one another to emphasize mutual affection.
